The Wine Emporium
The Wine Emporium is an Australian based retailer of the best wine, craft beer and boutique spirits.
Their core business is offline with physical stores but the last couple of years they’ve seen huge online growth. Keeping up with this growth needs a flexible ecommerce platform that meets their customers’ expectations. They are considered one of the most popular wine retailers in Brisbane.
Alex Macpherson, Technical Director of Greenhat
Challenge
In a short period of time, The Wine Emporium grew from an offline business to an omnichannel retailer with both physical stores ánd online sales channels. The rapid online growth left them with an ecommerce platform that was quickly outdated.
‘’The Wine Emporium had an existing eCommerce store built on BigCommerce. The store had some limitations which The Wine Emporium wanted to address such as ease of purchasing, it only served desktop users, customer group pricing, and push notification functionality.’’ Says Alex Macpherson, Technical Director at Greenhat.
He continues: ‘’Accordingly, The Wine Emporium came to Greenhat to discuss options to build a purpose specific mobile app so that ease of ordering and response to push notifications marketing could be facilitated. Greenhat believed that The Wine Emporium would be economically best served by building a PWA rather than mobile specific apps for Apple iStore and Android Play Store. The latter is a more costly exercise that requires duplication of effort and ongoing application maintenance.’’
With Deity’s Composable Commerce solution, The Wine Emporium was able to establish a completely new platform to serve their customers in just 6 weeks.
Solution
Because BigCommerce is directly connected with Deity’s Commerce Composer, The Wine Emporium didn’t have to do a full replatforming. They were able to keep their current platform and turn it into a hyper flexible and engaging shopping experience on all devices, 100% adapted to what their customers needed.
The Wine Emporium uses Deity’s Progressive Web App (PWA) solution to offer a unified experience on different web and native app channels. The app, based on the same codebase, can be made available in the Google Play Store and iOS App Store as a native app. This gives The Wine Emporium access to native functionalities like push notifications and mailing lists. This was one of the requirements for their new platform: to reach their mobile customers through promotional offers.

Having a flexible and scalable platform allows The Wine Emporium to introduce new features and sales channels quickly. They can easily make changes and adapt to market changes without it affecting the existing setup.
Results
By choosing Deity’s solution, The Wine Emporium saved an enormous amount of money, time and testing. Thanks to Deity’s pre-built, core functionalities, they didn’t have to invest much time in the first part of the project, leading to a fast time to market of only 6 weeks.
The Wine Emporium now has one unified digital experience for all web and app channels, leading to less developer time and maintenance costs.
